CATS: The Jellicle Ball

Front-end and visual implementation for the original Broadway production website, translating the show’s bold color, oversized typography, and kinetic editorial language into a responsive WordPress experience through custom JavaScript, bespoke layouts, campaign graphics, and a direct path to ticketing.

Project context

The campaign arrived with a developed creative direction and a distinctive visual language. The design-engineering challenge was to make that direction function as an interactive system—not place approved campaign artwork inside a conventional WordPress presentation.

The site extended the campaign’s theatrical energy through continuous motion, editorial composition, responsive image treatment, and web-specific graphics while maintaining a clear path from the campaign experience to external ticketing.

Selected contribution

  • Wrote custom JavaScript for continuous content and image carousels
  • Extended the existing WordPress presentation with custom layouts and front-end behavior
  • Defined responsive rules for item scale, spacing, crop, and visible content
  • Created and reconstructed web graphics from established campaign direction and supplied assets
  • Connected campaign calls to action to the external ticketing destination

Implementation

The carousel system used repeated content tracks and custom JavaScript to create continuous movement without a visible endpoint. Item sizing, spacing, cropping, and visible content changed across viewport sizes so the interaction retained its editorial rhythm rather than becoming a reduced version of the desktop layout.

The visual direction was already established. My role was to interpret that system for the web: identifying how its typography, color, image treatment, density, and playfulness should behave across layouts, interactions, and screen sizes.
